Veteran's ProgramA Community of Care for Veterans, Military & Families
SummitBHC recognizes that our veterans, active military personnel, and their family members are the backbone of our country. We also understand the long-lasting effects that the stress of military service has on the people who have served. Stress, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and addiction rates have climbed in recent years for this population. While substance use and mental health treatment options are available, many military members don’t seek help because they feel it’s a sign of weakness or they don’t feel confident that their unique situations can be addressed in a civilian treatment center.
That’s where the Tactical Recovery Program comes in. We have recently established the first-of-its-kind partnership with PsychArmor to certify each of our 23 facilities with special education programs that will also us to address the unique needs of the military population. PsychArmor is a national nonprofit organization that offers critical resources to Americans so they can effectively engage with and support military service members, Veterans, and their families.
To earn certification, facility employees complete PsychArmor courses about military culture and veteran-specific topics to help them understand the unique needs of our military, veterans, and their families.
Once a client completes treatment at a SummitBHC facility, our alumni programs will connect them with ongoing, appropriate resources in their hometown that will continue to support their needs for a lifetime.
SummitBHC decided to create this program because we realize because too few addiction and mental health centers are qualified in understanding and treating veterans. Far too often, veterans do not receive the level of treatment they deserve from people who understand the military. It makes it almost impossible for them to accept treatment in a conventional setting.
Currently, the following SummitBHC facilities are PsychArmor certified:
- Great Oaks Recovery Center near Houston, Texas
- Mountain Laurel Recovery Center in Westfield, Pa.
- Willingway in Statesboro, Georgia
- Safe Harbor Recovery Center in Portsmouth, Virginia
- Twin Lakes Recovery Center near Atlanta, Georgia
